How It Works

Give us a call or send us a message on our contact page to make sure we can accommodate everything you would like to convert to digital and also set up a good drop off time. After dropping your tapes off you will be sent an email from Superior Safe Keeping confirming that we received your order with a link to track your orders progress. The link in the email is specific to your order only. Sometimes the email goes to the Spam folder, so if it doesn't appear in your normal email inbox try checking there and mark it as not Spam so you will be notified when your order is complete. Below is an example of an order status that is currently being converted followed by more information regarding each step in the order status bar.

  • Pending
Your order is in line to be started. The number of orders ahead of you will be displayed on the screen.
  • Processing
We are preparing your tapes to be converted. This includes labeling each tape with a number, entering in the different types for tracking, rewinding them all back to the beginning, and recording the total time of each tape.
  • Converting
We are actively converting your tapes to digital. Tapes have to be run in real time to convert which is why the process can take a few days. However, we can convert multiple tapes at the same time on different machines which speeds the process up.
  • Compressing
This step is between converting and complete. Since the picture quality of video tapes from years ago is much less than the digital copy created, we compress the video files so they don't take up as much space without losing any quality.

Once everything has been completed we will send another email letting you know that your tapes are ready to be picked up along with cost information. Shortly after, we will call or email you directly to set up a good meeting time. When you arrive, you will be able to pick up your original tapes along with a USB drive with the digital copies on it. Each tape will have a numbered sticker on it starting with the number one. The USB drive will contain a video file for each tape and the name of each file will be a number. The number on the digital video file will match the physical video tape with the same sticker number. This is so you will easily be able to identify which video tape corresponds with each video file.
